in the burning rumble of my home, he saved me. his cool pale hands lifting me away. his sprinkling tears on my ashy face; wiping me clean. i would lean into him and weep night after night until there was nothing more to give.the chains have worn scars so discoloured it is like this body no longer belongs to me. even now, easing into the water, its not me. there is a clay figurine shaped like me sinking to the bottom of the riverbed, emulsifying with the stones until there is nothing left. the current will pull at my soft body till there is nothing more to give. then i will be free. when there is nothing truly left of me, i will be free. for as long as something remains of me, i belong to him, until there is nothing more to give.
